If your new door handle attaches to the door at a point below the lower borehole like ours you may need to drill another hole to accommodate.
How to fit a door handle and latch.
Tape measure pencil flat drill bit for wo.
Line up the spindle on the back of the handle with the slot in the latch sliding any mechanisms up or down as needed to fit the handle onto the door.
Close the door to and mark the centre of the latch tongue on the door frame.
Chisel out the faceplate so you can install it and screw it into place.
Set the latch of the door handle into its hole and make marks to show where the faceplate will be located.
The latch plate can now be fitted to the door frame.
Remove the two screws from the latch plate on the edge of the door and remove the latch from the opening.
Check that the new latch plate fits the recessed.
Mark your brand new door with the location.

Measure the distance as shown in fig 3 as a and transfer this measurement to the door frame position the latch plate in what will be its fixed position and mark out the door frame for the recess and any hole that will be required for the latch tongue when.
Insert the latch into the side of the door to see if its faceplate sits flush to the door.
Also chisel inside the hole for the latch to fit.
In some cases door latch plate mortises might need to be cut or enlarged.
The cuts made with the utility knife are your guidelines as to where to stop chiselling.

When the door needs to be opened a door handle or sometimes a knob is turned which in turn is attached to the latch via a door bar or door spindle that runs through the latch.
Fitting door handles may appear complicated at first but it is an easier task then you think.
The normal height for fitting a mortice latch is a metre up from the floor around 3 feet but you can either match existing handle heights ask the client how high they want them or check the drawing schedule to find out which height to drill the handles.
